Happy 4 th from the fireworks capital of America...my hometown

Now is the appropriate time for wishes from the " Fireworks Capital of America " New Castle Pa sends out Happy 4 th of July wishes to all.

A heartfelt wish for a happy together time with family and friends to Celebrate our Independence. Enjoy, appreciate and give thanks ......God Bless our United States of America and all who have fought for our freedoms.

Come with me for a Sunday drive through downtown New Castle. I want to share with you what our hometown has to offer.

When the welcome sign greets you, it is truly sincere. The residents are proud to claim New Castle as their own. Our New Castle is going through a revitalization and with beautiful results. Our buildings stand stately, rich in history.

The Lawrence County Seat of Government stands in prominence and majestically looks over the city, as it's row of American Flags remind us to be grateful that we live free in the hometown of our choice.

Our town has a complimentary mixture of the old and the new.

The students of New Castle High School enjoy the benefits of a new high school in the northern part of the city.

Since a runaway truck destroyed our previous fountain, in the middle of the diamond, a new impressive stone fountain found a new home.

A stop for lunch a Coney Island Hot Dog Shop is a must. When out of townee returns to New Castle, one of the first stops or at least before they leave, they eat at Coney Island. It is a required taste...BUT soon attainable.

Not that I am boasting,' but New Castle is also the HOT DOG CAPITAL of America. We have other great hot dog shops in the city.

I would not be surprised if we became the pizza capital of America. Great pizza here. Pizza Joes is a local famous New Castle pizza, along with many other locals..All good pizza here!!!

One of the most beautiful areas of the city is the Zambelli Memorial Park in memorial to Mr Zambelli, The fireworks King. The park is a fitting tribute to one of our famous icons. It is a magnificent gift to the city from the Zambelli family.

You hear the negative so much anymore and the beauty and the positive often is overlooked.

We need to be proud of our hometowns..I know I am I hope you enjoyed our Sunday drive.and I wish for you a happy holiday from the Fireworks capital of America

Another Love Fest for Pittsburgh...Penguin Victory Parade Celebrates the Stanley Cup

p> <

Well here it is ...the largest  event in Pittsburgh history.  The estimate of 375,000 people crowded the Pittsburgh Streets  to watch the Victory Parade after a 17 year old wait for the return of the Stanley Cup.

Two Victory parades in four months...Pittsburgh truly is the City of Champions.

Sidney Crosby in an interview remarked " City of Champions again....better than...Hockey town"

As far as the eye could see fans celebrated and the mutual love between fan and player was obvious.

Pittsburghers  love their Penguins and the Penguins claim to have  the best fans in the world. Fans traveled hours and miles to be part of the celebration.

Emotions ran high and excitement hit an all time high when Maxime Talbot was the first to jump out of the car and run along the edge of the crowd giving everyone a high five..what a thrill for the fans.

Bill Guerin's   87 year old  grandmother traveled from New Jersey to be part of this victorious day along with fans from across the country.

Fans were interviewed from  Nova Scotia Canada.

One women  drove   20 hours  from Florida to be part of history.

Indeed the excitement was unmatched . It was a great day in Pittsburg

A Surprise package from New Castle PA

Received a public comment from a Blog that I posted on a favorite hometown event

" The Apple Castle Festival "

http://activerain.com/blogsview/736683/-apple-castle-festival-in-new-castle-lawrence-county-pa-a-fall-fun-day-

This commenter wanted to surprise her husband for Father's Day and send him apples from the Apple Castle.  He was a one time resident of New Castle.  It just made me think about our small town and how the people that have moved away, never fail to remember the little things...events, places, good times and the  food.

All this  is woven into the fabric of the New Castle Life....they are the  .

pleasures we take for granted..until they are not at our finger tips anymore...and all we  have left is but the memory.

I remember telling someone  " My dad would never leave New Castle, unless he could take Coney Island Hot Dog Shop, May's Donuts and De Rosa (fresh baked daily) Italian bread with him...so forget about him leaving New Castle "  It it   funny huh, what makes a hometown  unforgettable.

The  statement below is from  the web site www.visitPa.com

Coney Island Hot Dogs
Since the early 1920's, Coney Island has been serving their famous hot dogs via their downtown New Castle PA location. Historians remember cooks stacking up to 20 hot dogs on their forearms in order to speed up the addition of condiments (it gets that busy!) Over the years Coney Island has grown into multiple locations and continues to be one of the most popular hot dog destinations in America
.

.......................................................................

(As far as I know there are only two original " Coney Island Ho Dog Shops "

not multiple shops. The owners have never been  interested in expanding or selling their famous recipe.

May I add ... the forearm  thing  was before the days of food handlers wearing latex gloves.....funny no one cared and no one died.

But then ....that was another time in history...... a different world than now.

I recently sent my brother in North Carolina a surprise package.

A box of dry ice packed with Coney Island chile sauce , frankfurters

( the dogs in the south are not like the ones up north} mustard, buns and even the onion.

Do I have to tell you ..........this LOVER of the Coney Island Dog, my brother  was ecstatic.

He did call me to thank me and added laughingly

" you know we can buy mustard, buns and onions down here  in North Carolina "

We laughed but .....I think he missed the whole point of my surprise !

The whole point of this post is that even though our small towns are minus the grandeur of what our big city cousins have to offer. it really doesn't matter.  To us little townees it is our hometown, we too own a little corner of the map...and we love it !  I am not sure who to thank for the wonderful blog post on New Castle and Coney Island ,

but it is a great read about our " Little Famous Shop"

If I still have your attention...how about a quick tour of our fair city?

This Memorial Day..what will it mean to you?

Maybe it is  those special memories you hold safe ............in the deepest part of your heart.

Like all the summer holidays they were spent with family and friends.

Memorial Day,  also meant a birthday celebration for my dad and always at his favorite summer spot.

That perfect picnic spot, was a magnificent view of hundreds of sail boats, that before noon would conquer the quiet Lake Arthur at Moraine State Park. It  was his little piece of the lake.

My husband and I  with our daughter would set out very early in the  morning to reserve my dad's special location, ahead of the rest of the family and the huge Memorial Day crowds.

Once there, watching the fog gently clear the view of the lake, wrapped in a blanket

(chilly those early mornings in May ).we drank hot coffee and savored the aroma of bacon and eggs that filled the air from all  the early picnickers.  There is absolutely nothing that taste better than bacon and eggs over a camp stove in the open air by a beautiful lake.

We celebrated Memorial Day in that manner for as long as I can remember.

The passing of time has a way of changing your life..It may steal your loved ones but never the memories.

.that is when memories are cherished.......more precious than gold.

I reflect back on our fun times together on our Memorial/dads birthday celebration with a bit of sadness in the loss of what was,

but again think about what Memorial Day really stands for....  Yes it is family, fun, picnics, beginning of summer, cherished memories....but Oh so much more.  it touches all in one way or another.

My dad's birthday visit was at the cemetery this Memorial day and as I stood at my families cemetery plots paying my respects to my loved ones, the gentle breeze touched the many American flags that graced the graves of the veterans.  I thought to myself..it is almost a silent whisper to remember the fallen.heros...the flags seem to whisper

"Remember them...remember that they left loved ones and that their lives changed, their families lives changed ...all because they fought for our right to live in a free country to enjoy making memories that can forever  live in the deepest safest part of our hearts."

..lest we forget....the really true meaning of Memorial day. Please listen, watch the you tube video below.  It truly will awaken  the real meaning of this Memorial day .It is an emotional, meaningful tribute to those who gave their  lives, and continually sacrifice to serve the Military.  Because of their sacrifice and dedication we are able  enjoy the freedoms we are blessed to have. Our Military..The guardians of  our Freedom

My tribute to my remarkable dad on his birthday and all our heroes in the Military.

Happy Birthday dad ...I miss you........................

New Castle, Pennsylvania. Celebrates." Let There Be Joy"

New Castle Pennsylvania celebrates " Let There Be Joy"

On December 26 the Seraphim Chorus, a community choir invited the residents and friends to a free concert at  Mary Mother of Hope Parish ( St Marys Church} in downtown New Castle.

The free concert featured selections by Handel, Faure, Rutter, Menotti and others celebrated the Christmas Season.

The chorus is under the direction of Mary Mother of Hope's own director of music, Mr Kris Harper.

Kathryn D.Miller, Westminster College organist will accompany the group. In addition to the performance of the Seraphim Chorus, Carmen Massaro-organist, Justine Kolodziej-Tenor & Kris Harper-Baritone and Anthony Nsthsl-Bass also performed at scheduled times.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The busyness, the hustle and hectic preparation for the celebration of Christmas ended with the beautiful presentation of " Let There Be Joy" at Mary Mother of Hope Parish in New Castle, Pennsylvania.

On December 26 th the community gathered to  celebrate a quieter time of the season.

Many gathered to relax, meditate, and enjoy the musical artistry from the choir loft and to absorb the brilliance and beauty of the scene at Bethlehem displayed before them.

Numerous exquisitely decorated trees surrounded the intricately detailed, seventy-inch scale, Fontanini Nativity. Massive bouquets of red and white poinsettias graced the sanctuary to recreate the scene of splendor and majesty of that Holy Night.

Although no photo can recapture the peace and tranquility of that afternoon, here is a slide show of the event.

Thanks to Rev. Victor J. Molka, Pastor and to all of the people who worked so deligently to create a visual display of the blessed stillness of Christmas.

                          Enjoy!

"Let the Countenance of Jesus Christ shine from you this season." May Jesus Christ be the gift that we share with everyone God brings into our lives. May there be no door close behind us that we haven't been 'the Christ' to that person's need.....

And so Winter begins..in Western Pa....

Here it is our first " Winter Wonderland Snowfall "  that special snowy day when magic happens.  Layers of glistening flakes accumulate by inches on everything in sight.  It is like living inside one of those winter snow globes. it is truly a " Currier and Ives " moment.  Nothing dramatic...simply a pretty picture.

I just captured these photos of the horse pasture and woods across my driveway, such a tranquil scene.  Hope you enjoy..the photos of  our beginning winter season in Western Pa.
